Matt Green joins us for “The World Before Your Feet,” a look at his bipedal adventures as a long-distance walker who has crossed the United States and is now in the midst of an effort to walk every block in New York City.
Matt Green is a former civil engineer who quit his job in 2010 to walk across the United States, pushing his gear in a handmade cart and knocking on strangers' doors asking for places to camp. Since 2012, he has been walking every block of every street in the five boroughs of New York City, a kaleidoscopic journey of more than 9,000 miles, photographing and researching whatever catches his eye as he explores one neighborhood after another.
Matt will share photos, videos, and stories from his adventures, along with some of the lessons he learned while walking. His tales of unexpected kindness and shared humanity offer an uplifting antidote to the political and cultural polarization that seem so prevalent in America today. Tune in and enjoy a reminder of all the small wonders that surround us at every moment, just waiting for us to take the time to notice them. Because, as comedian Steven Wright observed, “Everywhere is within walking distance if you have the time.”
Matt was the subject of the recent documentary The World Before Your Feet, available on Amazon Prime and other streaming sites.
