The Jewish Federation Connecting with Community hosts author/biographer, Ann-Elizabeth Barnes, for The Reverend Samuel Harrison: Abolitionist, Activist, and Chaplain of Pittsfield's Second Congregational Church in 1850.

Barnes will highlight the unrecognized roles blacks played in the events and outcomes of the Civil War as well as the part they played in securing their own future.  They fought with dedication and dignity throughout the war, while also standing up for the right to the same pay as white soldiers. 

The program will be followed by a book signing.

This free program is part of the Federation’s Connecting With Community Series and will be followed by a kosher hot lunch. Lunch is a $2 suggested donation for adults over 60 years of age or $7 for all others. Advance reservations are required for lunch and can be made by calling (413) 442-2200 before 9 a.m. on the day of the program.
