The Jewish Federation Connecting with Community program welcomes Michel Richard, PhD to discuss Carl Jung and the Book of Job.  Why do bad things happen to good people?  This perennial question will be explored.

Carl Jung, Freud's protege, offers us a disturbing answer, based on his own novel interpretation of the Book of Job.  Towards the end of his life, Jung was asked if he believed in G-d as a child.  When Jung answered that of course he did, the interviewer asked him if he still believed in G-d.  Jung hesitated, "Now? I don't have to believe - I know!"

Suggested reading:  Answer to Job by Carl Jung.
Note: This book is short, but challenging.  Don't be put off by the footnotes in Lain and Greek; the argument is very easy to grasp.

This free program is part of the Federation’s Connecting With Community Series and will be followed by a kosher hot lunch. Lunch is a $2 suggested donation for adults over 60 years of age or $7 for all others. Advance reservations are required for lunch and can be made by calling (413) 442-2200 before 9 a.m. on the day of the program.
