Thessaloniki (Salonika) was a premier center of Sephardic Jewish life in Greece, often called the "Jerusalem of the Balkans," with a Jewish majority for centuries after 1492. Ioanina (Janina) was the center for Romaniote Jews, with a history dating back to the 2nd Temple period—far older than that of Sephardic Judaism. Come learn about this rich Jewish history in Greece, the devastation of what happened during the Holocaust, and about Jewish life in Greece today. Rabbi Pam Wax will reflect on her recent Jewish Heritage tour of Greece. She will share photos, history, and stories of resistance. Please register for the Zoom link at knessetisrael.org/rsvp.
