The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires presents:
The Berkshires Farm Table Cookbook: Local Farms Through a Jewish Lens
with authors Elisa Spungen Bildner and Robert Bildner

Join authors Elisa Spungen Bildner and Robert Bildner who will discuss the ethics and philosophy of 42 local farmers and farm to table chefs in the Berkshires.  Check out this Preview

These stories illustrate the importance of supporting local family farmers for many reasons, and especially for Jews like ourselves, since they embrace such values as bal taschit, prohibiting waste or destroying resources, shmita, letting lands lie fallow during the seventh or sabbatical year, and tzaar baalei chayim, commanding us to not let animals suffer. Elisa and Rob have lived in the Berkshires for 35 years and interviewed and recorded the stories of the farmers and growers in the book.
