Born and bred in the U.S., Dr. Laura Wharton received a B.A. from Harvard University before moving to Israel. She served in the IDF and then became a member of Kibbutz Kfar Blum, which was her home for ten years. Laura completed a doctorate in political science at Hebrew University where she currently teaches. Active all her life in social movements, she became involved in politics through work on Israel’s Public Housing Bill and subsequently ran on the Meretz party’s list for the Knesset. Since 2008 she has served as a member of Jerusalem’s City Council and is now the head of the opposition.
