The premiere of a special film, recorded live last fall at the Yiddish Book Center: on the hundredth anniversary of the death of Sholem Aleichem, two of the world’s most engaging Yiddish scholars—Ruth Wisse, recently retired from Harvard, and her brother, David Roskies, of Hebrew University and the Jewish Theological Seminary—retell, discuss, and debate their favorite Sholem Aleichem stories in a lively, freewheeling demonstration.
