Topic: “Cemetery Records and Their Importance in Jewish Genealogy”
Speaker: Nolan Altman
- Board member of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS)
- Coordinator of JewishGen’s Worldwide Burial Registry project.
Nolan will discuss how cemetery records can provide insight into the evolution of
family naming conventions, serving as a valuable resource to connect generations of ancestors.
He will explain the significance of many symbols that are inscribed on Jewish tombstones and
demonstrate examples taken from worldwide cemetery databases. Nolan promises to add humor to this
topic so as not to make the talk too grave.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
