Cast: goal of 6-10 readers, mixed genders and ages(including teens)
Auditions: The director, Carol Russof, is looking forreaders who “can shape their vowels and punch their consonants.” Carol is aprofessional director with years of experience with productions from coast tocoast. When you meet her you will knowthat she has the true gift of theatrical vision. Last year she directed a version of this productionto our south in Hudson. Each production,of course, is unique to its cast!
To prepare for auditions:
Please let Myrna know that you are interested inauditioning. She will order sufficientcopies of the book (“A Bintel Brief: volume 1) for each prospective castmember. You will be able to read throughthe book, a collection of “Dear Abby” letters with replies from the editor ofthe Daily “Forvitz” (Forward), a Yiddish newspaper read by the immigrants ofthe Lower East Side in the early 1900’s. Most of our grandparents and great grandparents entered this countrythrough the port of New York, greeted by the imposing symbol of the Statue of Liberty.
Select from the book one letter that is age and genderappropriate for you, something you see as inspiring and evocative. Alternatively,we can hand you something appropriate but you will not have had the benefit preparationtime.
We will also need a strong male reader to be the editorwho replies to each letter. He should select an evocative reply from the bookto read for his audition. He can try out for letter-writer too, of course.
Auditions and Rehearsal are in the KI Sanctuary on Mondays at 6:30 pm
