In commemoration of Kristallnacht.

The recent inauguration of the Shoah Memorial at Milan’s Central Station marks the coming together of two organizations, one that has documented this history for more than 70 years.  Hear about the memorial, its architect, historians, and others who play an important role in the research and in preserving memory of the Shoah in Italy.

Judith Monachina, Director of the Housatonic Heritage Oral History Center at Berkshire Community College will talk about the particulars of the Memorial - the features – and also about how she watched this site develop over a period of 15 years, interviewing the architect there.  Judith will also explore with the group the hope of one historian, her wish for the memorial.  That is, to create a new European citizenry, one which is inoculated against hate.

This free program is part of the Federation’s Connecting with Community Series and will be followed by a kosher hot lunch. Lunch is a $3 suggested donation for adults over 60 years of age or $7 for all others. Advance reservations are required for lunch and can be made by calling (413) 442-2200 before 9 a.m. on the day of the program.
