Join long-time community member Milton Lestz to discuss and listen to classic Yiddish music sung on the radio, in films, and in live performances by leading Jewish performers at the Second Ave Theater. Some of the artists include The Barry Sisters, The Andrew Sisters, Sholoman Seconda, Moishe Oysher, Seymour Rechtzeyt, and many more.
Milton says: I grew up on the lower east side of Manhattan. My parents grew up in Europe and met and married in NYC. Every Sunday morning my mother did the family ironing while listening to WNEW.
When I got a little older, my mother took me to The Second Avenue theater where they presented a foreign film in Yiddish and a live play in Yiddish. I acquired a part-time job selling soda and popcorn there every Saturday and Sunday, which entitled me to enjoy the shows.
