The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires' Connecting with Community series will be joined by Professor Leonard Quart for a talk and discussion about issues involving race and ethnicity titled “Post Racial America Doesn’t Exist.”

Says Quart: “I will talk on the way racism and the problem of race still festers in America, despite the rise of a
large black middle class. I’ll discuss income and educational disparities between blacks and whites, but place my emphasis on the charged, violent encounters with the police in New York City, Baltimore, and elsewhere. These encounters have led to protests – peaceful and self-destructive – but few real changes.”

The talk will take about 25 minutes, and the rest of the hour will be reserved for questions and discussion.
Quart is professor emeritus of cinema studies at Grad Center CUNY and the College of Staten Island, a contributing
editor to Cineaste, and the co-author of American Film and Society Since 1945 – 4th Edition (Praeger, 2001). He
also contributes to the Berkshire Eagle.

This free program is part of the Federation’s Connecting With Community Series and will be followed by a kosher
hot lunch. Lunch is a $2 suggested donation for adults over 60 years of age or $7 for all others. Advance reservations
are required for lunch and can be made by calling (413) 442-2200 before 9 a.m. on the day of the program.
