On September 17th at Congregational Knesset Israel, Yefim Kogan will present a hands-on workshop to help develop research skills for individual genealogy quests. At his April 28th presentation, “An Introduction to Jewish Genealogical Research,” Yefim addressed the following questions: what is genealogy, what are the myths about Jewish genealogy and how can we begin searching our Jewish family trees?
Yefim suggests a little homework assignment prior to the class, if possible. Access the resource pages in the link accompanying this article or in emails publicizing the program. Then enter www.jewishgen.org Begin with the section GET STARTED/First Timer. This will give you the opportunity to experiment and to develop real questions that Yefim will be happy to answer at the Sunday session.
The class will begin at noon, as there will be memorial prayers at the Congregation Knesset Israel Cemetery earlier that morning. Light refreshments and beverages will be available. There is a suggested donation of $10. Please notify Myrna Hammerling by September 14th if you are planning to attend: mhammerling@knessetisrael.org or 413-445-4872 x. 16. This will help plan how many tables to set up and the amount of refreshments to prepare. The wider community is welcome.
