Following Shabbat morning services and a sit-down kiddush lunch at Knesset Israel, join us for a presentation by Fred Rutberg, President of New England Newspapers, Inc. What are the challenges that face the newspaper industry, and what is the future landscape for local journalism? Fred Rutberg, an expert in the field , will share his wisdom about the world of journalism and publishing today.

Fred Rutberg served as staff attorney for the New York City Commission on Human Rights and then at Manhattan Legal Services in Spanish Harlem in the early 1970’s before moving to Berkshire County. He served as the attorney-in-charge of Legal Aid Society of Albany's Rensselaer County Office in Troy from 1972 to 1974 before practicing general law in Stockbridge and Lenox. In 1998 he was appointed to the District Court Appellate Division and served until 2010. He later served as Chair of the District Court Committee on Civil Proceedings; on the Supreme Judicial Court's Standing Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure (and as Chair), as well as being a member of Board of Directors and a Vice President of the Massachusetts Judges' Conference. He retired from the bench in 2015, and in 2016 purchased New England Newspapers, Inc. (publisher of the Berkshire Eagle) with three other investors. He retired as publisher in 2025 but continues to serve as President of New England Newspapers, Inc.
