The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires presents:
Knosh & Knowledge "Talmudic Rabbis & Jewish Sorceresses: Strange Bedfellows
with award winning author, Maggie Anton.
Author of Rashi's Daughters and new series, Rav Hisda's Daughter, Anton will talk about the research for Enchantress: A Novel of Rav Hasda's Daughter. Set in Babylonia and Roman Palestine during the 4th century, it focuses on Rabbinic families in the aftermath of the destruction of Jerusalem's Holy Temple. In this backdrop, women excluded from their religion's hierarchy find power as sorceresses. Surprisingly, some of the spells they used have become part of today's Jewish liturgy.
