A new discussion series will be starting at Congregation Ahavath Sholom this month. This will be a participatory group led by Mr. Al Steiner. The group will explore the secular study of Jewish history which will involve studying traditional as well as new concepts. It will concentrate on evidence-based information incorporating science (Archeology, Anthropology, Physics, Chemistry etc.), literature, Bible study and other relevant areas. We will be trying to understand who and what we are and how we got this way. Hopefully we can even have some fun with this “stuff” and not get too academic.
Our first session will involve a study of the history of Jewish history. Who wrote it and why did they write it the way they did. (Historicity/Historiography?).
We plan to start on Sunday morning Oct. 26th and meet monthly thereafter. Advance material will be sent to participants including OPTIONAL reading material. There is no fee for participating in this group.
