The Berlin-based Daniel Kahn & the Painted Bird perform a blend of original and traditional songs, including songs of resistance, partisan songs, worker's anthems, gangster ballads along with love songs, cries of despair, and declarations of triumph. Their music draws upon Yiddish and klezmer traditions flavored with punk, rock, jazz, Brecht, and Leonard Cohen. Their most recent album is “The Butcher's Share,” about which the “Forward” said, “Daniel Kahn's dark album is perfect for these dark times.”
