In a program commissioned especially for Yidstock, Ladino vocalist Sarah Aroeste and Yiddish vocalist Anthony Mordechai Tzvi Russell join forces to explore common themes and approaches in Ladino and Yiddish music. Accompanied by pianist/accordionist Dmitri Gaskin (of Tsvey Brider) and guitarist Rob Sanzone, Sarah and Anthony will musically reconcile these long-lost cousins of Jewish music. American-born and trained in classical opera at Westminster Choir College and Yale University, Sarah Aroeste, inspired by her family's Sephardic roots in Greece and Macedonia, has spent the last 15 years bringing her contemporary style of original and traditional Ladino music to audiences around the world. Ten years after making his professional debut in the world premiere of Philip Glass's Appomattox, Anthony Russell is now a vocalist, composer, and arranger specializing in Yiddish art and folk song, khazones, and Chasidic nigunim.
