The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires Connecting with Community series presents "Community, Caring, and Kosher Cooking" with Sara Volovik, co-director of Chabad of the Berkshires.

Wearing many hats - educator, organizer, program director, and kosher cook sans pareil - Volovik works to create community every day, and in this program, she will highlight some of the outreach services that she organizes and presents in the Berkshires.  As a Chabad emissary, Volovik says her ultimate mission is to bring more Judaism to the Berkshires, which she strives to accomplish through hands-on programs and activities provided at Pittsfield's Chabad House and other venues.

Volovik will also talk about the Chabad movement, and how its sheluchim (emissaries) adapt to the far-flung locations around the globe to which they are sent.  She says that each Chabad's approach is to reflect the unique needs of the community in which it is located.  Sara herself holds a master's degree in Special Education, and runs Chabad of the Berkshires' Hebrew school.  She will talk about her experiences in this community.

Sara, her husband, and their 5 children have resided in the Berkshires since 2004, and are part of a network of over 4000 Chabad centers worldwide.  Her passions are community service and culinary creations. She has catered events for Shakespeare and Co., the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel, and has prepared thousands of Kosher meals for Berkshire County residents and tourists.

This free program is part of the Federation’s Connecting With Community Series and will be followed by a kosher hot lunch. Lunch is a $2 suggested donation for adults over 60 years of age or $7 for all others. Advance reservations are required for lunch and can be made by calling (413) 442-2200 before 9 a.m. on the day of the program.
