The Jewish Federation Connecting with Community hosts Morgan Ovitsky, project coordinator of Be Well Berkshires.  Come learn what's happening with Be Well Berkshires.

This program will offer an overview of past and present work and the plans for what is coming next.  Morgan Ovitsky directs this initiative and its mission as a healthy eating and active living initiative grant for the Department of Public Health that is housed at Berkshire Health Systems.  Through this work, Morgan helps to connect stakeholders to important issues in our community such as food access and security, pedestrian safety and public health policy

Be Well Berkshires is comprised of community leaders such as Public Health Officials, Board of Health members, Town Administrators, Nutritionists, Restaurant Owners, School Leaders and many other interested members of the communities. Be Well Berkshires Senior Leadership Team was created in an attempt to combat the ongoing problem of overweight and obesity prevalence in Berkshire County by promoting healthy eating and active living. By increasing access to healthier food options and by working with municipal officials to implement policy changes in our towns to promote physical activity such as walking and bicycling, we can begin to reverse the overwhelming trend of overweight and obesity and get our community back into shape – one step at a time, one meal at a time.

This free program is part of the Federation’s Connecting With Community Series and will be followed by a kosher hot lunch. Lunch is a $2 suggested donation for adults over 60 years of age or $7 for all others. Advance reservations are required for lunch and can be made by calling (413) 442-2200 before 9 a.m. on the day of the program.
